Vocal Techniques IV (Honors)

This course reveals basic singing techniques and interpretive skills, suitable for both beginning singers and for students with a wide range of singing experience.

This class is an introduction to healthy vocal production, which will include study in the following areas:

  1. Proper posture and breath
  2. Tone production
  3. Diction
  4. Expression and interpretation
  5. Vocal confidence and performance practice

Students will improve their vocal ability through various exercises, group songs, and solo performances.

  • Must come to class prepared to PURSUE EXCELLENCE!
  • Students must be ON TIME and PREPARED for every class. This is an extremely pivotal lesson that will be necessary in this class and beyond.
  • If a student misses class, they will be expected to get the work from a fellow classmate. The student will also need to come with a note explaining why they missed class.
  • Student must be willing, ready, and open to performing in front of the class. If there are any anxiety issues that often come with performing and speaking in front of others, please meet with me privately so we can discuss the best approach to this component of the class.
  • Performing and sharing ideas can be a very vulnerable experience. As we will regularly perform vocal techniques, songs and share ideas with one another, it is essential that each student maintains a RESPECTFUL and COURTEOUS attitude towards your fellow classmates and peers. I take this extremely seriously as I respect each and every one of your opinions and strive to create an environment where everyone feels welcome to share their thoughts and voices.
  • NO CELLPHONES out during class time. Electronic devices are only allowed out when permitted by the teacher for classroom assignments.
